Tire Wear/Expansion Tanks

On a recent visit, I came across more tire wear issues. The reason for this tire wear in particular is because there were no expansion tanks for the torpress bag. What that means, is when the axle goes into a turn, it doesn’t allow the pressure to equalize or stay constant. It increases the pressure in the torpress which creates more resistance for turning. So hence what you have is tire ware. They scrub. The lesson here is make sure you have expansion tanks for your torpress bags!

Take care of those tires,

SPIF Vehicles and Wobble

I have noticed in my travels up and down the Hwy 401 corridor that many SPIF compliant trailers are experiencing steer axle wobble and excessive bouncing. These issues can be corrected by using balanced drums, making sure that torpress bag pressures are adequate (30 to 45psi) and tire pressure is at the manufacturers recommended psi. Another consideration would be to go to a heavy duty shock on the suspension.
